    Joanna Okoń, “Życie wśród nut”

52nd Nasi Goście meeting; special guest Włodzimierz Pigła; violin concert by Joanna Okoń and Yaryna Nebesna

    Description

Dear Friends! On Monday 22 June 2026 at Kredens pod Oknami, 4 Boremlowska Street, we will host Włodzimierz Pigła in the original series of musical meetings by the wonderful violinist Joanna Okoń!

It will be about music, about life among the notes, and we will listen to a violin concert by Joanna Okoń and her musical protégée! Apparently a musical surprise awaits us too!

Włodzimierz Pigła is a Polish music librarian and musicographer. From 1971 to 1976 he studied musicology at the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw under Jerzy Pikulik. Since 1976 he has worked in the Music Collections Department of the National Library in Warsaw, where in 1984 he became a curator, and from 1989 to 1997 he was head of the Department. From 1991 to 1996 he chaired the Music Libraries Section of the Polish Librarians’ Association. Since 1978 he has been an individual member of the Association Internationale des Bibliothèques Musicales, and since 2000 he has worked with the Répertoire International de la Presse Musicale. He has taken part in many national and international librarians’ conferences and also participates in the work of the Music Periodicals Working Group. He has been honoured with the “Zasłużony Działacz Kultury” (Meritorious Cultural Activist) badge (1986) and the Bronze Cross of Merit (1988).

His research interests focus on musicographic and documentation issues relating to Polish music of the 19th and 20th centuries; in particular he devotes himself to work on a bibliography of Chopin transcriptions and of Chopin-related themes in the work of other composers.

You are very warmly invited! We are grateful to Włodzimierz and Asia for their effort and for sharing music, passion and creative time!

The paintings are a record of impressions and feelings from journeys near and far. An important area of the artist’s creative exploration is nature. The strong influence of nature and yielding to impulses and emotions are an inseparable part of the creative act. An important source of inspiration for the artist lies in the phenomena of light, colour and form – the outer world colliding with the world of the imagination.

    Marek Miller, “Katechizm reportera”

    Description

    Dear all!

We warmly invite you to the 5th meeting in the series The Documentary Film and Its Makers! An evening with the outstanding Polish journalist and reporter Marek Miller and his latest book "Katechizm Reportera"! 19 June 2024 at 6 pm; free admission!

You will be able to buy it for twenty-five złoty. Volume II of the History of the Różycki Bazaar will also be on sale, for 100 zł. It is an exceptional publication. The conversation will be led by Anna Bojarska Urbańska and Marek Urbański.

Marek Miller: Creator and organiser of the Reportage Laboratory – a place of journalistic exploration and experiment, probing the space between journalism and writing and examining the possibilities of collective work on a text and of multimedia storytelling.

Marek Miller writes about himself, among other things:

"…I am a reporter. I believe in reportage. It is my vision, my passion, my obsession. For me reporters are a reference group, my guild, my trade, my way of life. Can I call it a vocation? Do I have enough aptitude for it? How can that be recognised? How defined?

The need to “be a gift for” others is written into human nature. A vocation is linked with a gift “for” others; the one called “walks in the direction in which love calls him”1, because only that can explain the willingness to bear hardships that do not pay off in temporal life. So at the origin of the mission of informing and educating the public there is a strong inner imperative. I am deeply moved by the nobility and gravity of your profession.

A vocation demands total dedication and sacrifice. What demands are made of a reporter, of the journalistic vocation? What lies behind what attracts, absorbs and inspires me? Knowledge? The desire to find an answer to the question of how it really was, what the truth is? How to seek it, how to report it? What follows from the fact that I am a Catholic?

    Description

    Dear Guests!
EVENTS as part of the Warsaw Neighbours’ Days

Film evenings with a cup of tea in Kredens pod Oknami! A postscript to the series Klatka po Klatce IV: “Dyrygent”, a film by Andrzej Wajda from 1979

The story’s hero is John Lasocki (John Gielgud), an American conductor of Polish descent who, after an international career, decides to return to Poland to conduct a special concert of the music of Ludwig van Beethoven. One of the conductor’s favourites is Marta Pietryk (Krystyna Janda), whose jealous husband Adam (Andrzej Seweryn) – an unfulfilled conductor with no authority – plots an intrigue against the guest.

    .

“… In second place among the distinguished eleven films singled out by Ingmar Bergman was the Polish film "Dyrygent" by Andrzej Wajda… Perhaps it is the motif of "the search for lost time" present in "Dyrygent", which also recurs constantly in the work of the author of "Wild Strawberries"?… Without doubt, Wajda’s film was received far better abroad than at home. "Dyrygent" won many prestigious awards, including at such well-known festivals as San Sebastián and Santander…”

    Thursday 16 May 2024, 6 pm;

    Description

    Dear Guests!
    YOU ARE INVITED!
To intergenerational events as part of the Warsaw Neighbours’ Days

Film evenings with a cup of tea at Kredens pod Oknami! A postscript to the series Klatka po Klatce IV: “WESELE” (The Wedding), Andrzej Wajda’s film from 1972

Monday, 20 May 2024; 6 pm; free admission.
    The film lasts 109 minutes.
Kredens pod Oknami, 13 Szklanych Domów Street, entrance from Garwolińska Street

A screen adaptation of Stanisław Wyspiański’s play of the same title. The characters of “Wesele” are members of the intelligentsia and the peasantry who come to a cottage in Bronowice to celebrate the wedding of an intellectual Groom and a peasant Bride. The wedding of the title is disturbed by apparitions that arrive at the celebration, whose presence becomes an occasion for reflection on the history of Polish society and its prospects for the future. The adaptation of Wyspiański’s play uses historical costume, though its message has been updated; for example, the figure of Wernyhora has been made up to look like Józef Piłsudski. The film “Wesele” won the Silver Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. The literary “Wesele” was based on a real event, the wedding of the poet Lucjan Rydel (the Groom) to the peasant Jadwiga Mikołajczykówna (the Bride) on 20 November 1900. The characters in the literary and film versions of the work are modelled on real people; for example, Włodzimierz Tetmajer embodied the Host, Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer the Poet, Rudolf Starzewski the Journalist, Antonina Domańska the Counsellor’s Wife, and Józefa Singer Rachel. Some of the play’s symbolic characters also derive from authentic figures from Polish history.

Dear Friends! We are delighted to invite you to:

    Krzysztof Przybysz
    About himself:
I was born in Praga, Warsaw. I lived here, and I was also professionally
connected with Praga, working in logistics in the broad sense.

I have many interests, from history to sailing, and over the years there was never enough time. After retiring I decided to live life to the full, look for new paths and return to old passions. I have always taken photographs

    – now I can devote more attention to photography again.

To look, to see, to notice – this is the guiding thought, the motto with which I once framed my activities with a camera. To perceive

with the awareness that a moment is fleeting, and that a photograph taken a second earlier or later fixes the world differently and may capture something entirely different from what I noticed as I released the shutter...

Nowadays everyone takes photographs. Everyone can also (and I hope they will want to) share with me their impressions of how they see what I have stopped in the frame. Will they see and feel what is “between the lines”? Finally, one more fact that matters to me: it is good to have someone who believes in you and sees in you that SOMETHING! I am that lucky – I have my wife, Anna Carpenter. She, as an artist, noticed it and then encouraged, persuaded and motivated me, including for this exhibition. Knowing that you have a supportive person at your side gives you wings!

    Joanna Hempel

    Author evening

    Description

Dear all! We are delighted to begin 2024 at Kredens pod Oknami with an author meeting with Joanna Hempel and her latest book "Księgi wojny i miłości" (“Books of War and Love”), Volume I "Wanda". We warmly invite you!

    Tomasz Kucharski, Mayor
of the Praga-Południe District of the Capital City of Warsaw,
    the “Szaserów” Housing Cooperative and
the Piwnica Poetycka ENS Foundation invite you to:
    An author meeting
    whose heroine will be:
    Joanna Hempel
    and her latest book:
    “Księgi wojny i MIŁOŚCI”
    VOLUME I
    WANDA
A gripping portrait of a multigenerational family on both
    sides of the eastern front
    during the First World War.
The evening will be hosted by:

Jan Rychner – president of the Literary Club "Nasza Twórczość" of the Wspólnota Polska Association, poet, member of ZAiKS, member of the Slavic Academy of Literature and Art in Varna

    Wednesday, 10 January 2024, 6 pm
Kredens pod Oknami, ul. Szklanych Domów 13, free admission
Project partners: YAMAHA – Polska, Pasja music shop

“Great stories demand great narratives. They are nothing without full-blooded characters. Joanna Hempel does not let her ancestors fade in photographs. She shows them in their hour of trial, weaving them into the enormous fabric of European history. If one is to get to know the eastern front of the Great War – then only like this!”

    Tomasz Kosiorek – Polish Radio

“It is hard to put down a book that so vividly interweaves great history with human fates. This novel tugs at the heartstrings. I am enchanted!” Barbara Wysoczańska, author. “I finished reading the whole thing in two days; some of it I even read twice, I simply could not put it down. I had been waiting impatiently for this novel, expecting an ordinary, biographical one… But this book is particularly well written – the structure, the way the plot is built, the insightful analysis of the realities and the descriptions…”

Halina Czernuszyn Robinson, Sydney, writer, Holocaust survivor

“I have finished reading it for the second time. A masterly work – especially the dialogue used to tell historical and political events. The characterisations of women such as Wanda or Bronia, who grew from inexperienced, sheltered girls into strong young women, made a particular impression on me.

I gave it 5 stars on Amazon.” Penelope Collet, art historian, France

Rafał Podraza on Magdalena Samozwaniec and fairy tales not only for children

    Description

We warmly invite you to the 22nd meeting in the series Nasi Goście (Our Guests), whose hero will be Rafał Podraza, music journalist, biographer and Kossak scholar.

It will be an evening of storytelling and a book, during which you will be able to buy the author’s book at a promotional price.

The conversation will be led by Anna Bojarska.

Rafał Podraza is a music journalist, poet, biographer and lyricist. He is regarded in literary circles as a specialist on the Kossak family and the history of Polish song.

Rafał Podraza comes from Lower Silesia. He graduated in history from the University of Wrocław. He is a member of the Polish Writers’ Union, the ZAKR Union of Authors and Composers, and the ZAiKS Association of Authors.

He made his literary debut at the age of seven with a cycle of poems, Milioner, in the local paper Polska Miedź. In 1992, in the national competition Dramaturgia Młodych (Young Dramatists), organised by the Teatr Polski in Wrocław, he received a distinction for the play Grzesiek, Antek i reszta. He has published five volumes of poetry. His book Magdalena, córka Kossaka (PIW 2007) influenced the renaissance of the work of Magdalena Samozwaniec. Building on this success, he prepared for print previously unknown books by the writer:

Z pamiętnika niemłodej już mężatki (WAB 2009),
    Moja siostra poetka (PIW 2010),
Trzymajcie się! Porady dla młodych i starych (Iskry 2017)
Baśnie, bajki i bajeczki (nie tylko) dla dzieci (Oficyna R 2022).

Podraza’s edition of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska’s wartime notes, Wojnę szatan spłodził. 1939-45 (Agora 2012), met with a great response in Poland. On its basis, in 2015 the stage production Lilka, cud Miłości was created, directed by Waldemar Śmigasiewicz (performers: Magdalena Zawadzka, Krystyna Tkacz, Joanna Żółkowska, Paulina Holtz), later transferred to the Polish Radio Theatre.

He is the author of a radio play – premiered in the Polish Radio Theatre – entitled Cyrograf. Historia z życia Heleny Majdaniec. The radio play is currently being adapted for the stage in Szczecin.

The radio play grew out of another area of Rafał Podraza’s interest, Polish popular music, hence the books devoted to Janusz Kondratowicz, Helena Majdaniec, Krzysztof Dzikowski, Anna Jantar and Irena Jarocka.

In the magazine “Prestiż” of Koszalin, Szczecin and the Tricity he ran his own column, Prestiżowe Książki, in which he presented what he considered the most interesting publications. Together with Róża Czerniawska-Karcz he ran the weekly Kącik Literacki (Literary Corner) on TVP3 Szczecin. He worked with TVP Rozrywka, for which he prepared a 24-episode programme, Na festiwalowej scenie…, presenting profiles of outstanding Polish artists.

As an expert he took part in TVP programmes: Gwiazdozbiór and Muzeum Polskiej Piosenki: Historia jednego przeboju.

Since 2017 he has co-edited the column Historia jednej piosenki in the national weekly “Na żywo”. So far he has described more than 300 stories in the press. In 2021 the column was awarded the Kryształowe Pióro (Crystal Pen) by the ZAKR Union of Authors and Composers.

His articles and interviews are also printed in Życie na Gorąco and Dobry Tydzień.

The painting of Anna Carpenter: the energy of colour.
It was colour precisely – the luminous spaciousness
characteristic of Anna Carpenter's painting and the positive energy it carries – that fascinated me
and captivated me at first sight.
Saturated, resonant colours, a mysterious depth
    and something else elusive –
perhaps the magic of the cheerfulness that is typical of
the artist – radiate from her paintings to the viewer
and do not let them pass by indifferent. Regardless of
the subject – whether they are semi-landscapes, portraits, miniatures –
    or large-format abstract compositions.
When in 2010 the artist began her
adventure with acrylic, the colours of her paintings took on
even greater power. It was then too that she broadly developed
the strand of her painting that she describes as emotional
    abstraction.
    Anna Carpenter's work has, moreover,
a special virtue – the longer one lives with her works,
the more one can discover in them. Perhaps it is precisely this
phenomenon that the artist calls playing with inner
landscapes... For example, the story that the painter
spins in the series "Pokusy", which, as she wrote, is a very
personal record of the emotional equivalent of a process
of thought, contains, besides an interesting play of form, so many
    layered messages, hidden subtexts and
playful associations that it is impossible to grow bored with her
    paintings.

“Saksofon i ja”, a concert by saxophonist Alina Mleczko

    Description

Dear Friends! We warmly invite you to the 13th meeting in the series Nasi Goście (Our Guests)! The heroine of the evening will be the outstanding Polish saxophonist Alina Mleczko! We will hear her musical story about her life, with the saxophone and its sounds as her guide. At the meeting you will be able to buy our guest’s own CD at a promotional price. Here is the Artist’s biographical note:

Dr hab. Alina Mleczko – artist, saxophonist, teacher

In 1994 she gave a brilliant diploma recital at the Academy of Music. In 1995 she made her debut as a soloist at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. As early as October 1996, the American trade magazine Saxophone Journal devoted a monographic article to her in a special issue dedicated to the world’s most outstanding female saxophonists.

She is the first woman to have graduated (with the highest grade) from the saxophone class of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.

Within just a few years of her debut she was invited to give concerts in England, France, the USA, Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Ukraine, and her concert tour of the USA in 2000, on which she performed with the pianist Yoko Yamada-Selvaggio, ended with a satellite broadcast of that recital from the Chicago Cultural Center, produced by the station WFMT.

She recorded and released her first solo album while still a student. "Wiatr od Morza" (Wind from the Sea) consists mainly of compositions dedicated to her by Jacek Grudzień, Paweł Mykietyn, Maciej Zieliński, Waldemar Miksa and Michał Kulenty. Dorota Szwarcman wrote in her review that it is “music for quiet conversations and friendly confidences at twilight”, and Jacek Marczyński wrote in his review in Rzeczpospolita “that the heroine of this album is above all the soloist herself, because the saxophone here is not so much a solo instrument as one that creates the music. Alina Maria Mleczko can do this with grace and lightness.”

She made her debut at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw in 1995, performing the Fantasia for soprano saxophone and orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos at the opening concert of the Latin American Culture Festival. A year later she made her debut at the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music with the premiere of the Concerto for soprano saxophone and string orchestra by Jacek Grudzień, written for her and enthusiastically received by the audience.

With equal success she performs the most famous works of the classical saxophone literature – Alexander Glazunov, Claude Debussy, Pierre Max Dubois, Jacques Ibert – as well as the newest compositions, such as the concerto by Robert Kritz or Osvaldas Balakauskas, which received its Polish premiere in her performance with the string orchestra Kyiv Virtuosi at Warsaw Autumn 2000.

Polish composers readily entrust her with the premieres of their works, among them Paweł Szymański, Paweł Mykietyn, Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, Edward Sielicki, Jacek Grudzień, Piotr Grella-Możejko, Hanna Kulenty-Majoor, Dariusz Przybylski, Jerzy Derfel and Zbigniew Kozub.

Since 1995 Alina Mleczko has taken part in many music festivals: Warsaw Autumn, the Lutosławski Forum at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, Musica Polonica Nova. As a Batory Foundation scholarship holder she represented Poland at the Two Days & Two Nights festival. She works with the orchestras of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, Polish Radio and Sinfonia Varsovia, with whom she has made numerous recordings. She has been on many concert tours, including with the music ensembles of the Teatr Dramatyczny and Teatr Studio in Warsaw. She has collaborated with the Teatr Dramatyczny and Teatr Studio in Warsaw.

She has taken part in numerous productions directed by, among others, Krzysztof Warlikowski, with music by Paweł Mykietyn.

She co-creates theatre productions performing her own music, among others with the actor Wojciech Siemion in the production by Tomasz Walczak, “Treny mojej Matce”; with Mariusz Bonaszewski in the monodrama “Saksofon”, based on Wiesław Myśliwski’s novel “Traktat o łuskaniu fasoli”; and with Olgierd Łukaszewicz in the aforementioned “Treny mojej Matce”.

She engages in unusual musical projects, such as Adam Jarzębski – Music of the Polish Baroque, in which she plays solo parts in her own arrangement on the soprano saxophone together with period instruments.

She has worked with the ensemble Nonstrom and with Maria Pomianowska’s Polish Ensemble. She works with Tytus Wojnowicz’s quartet Arundo and with the pianists Agnieszka Kopacka and Yoko Yamada-Selvaggio.

She has also worked with Włodek Pawlik, now a Grammy winner, with whom she prepared, among other things, the recital programme Druga struna medalu (The Other Side of the Coin) – jazz and classical music.

As a soloist she has performed with orchestras including Capella Istropolitana from Bratislava, the National Orchestra of Ukraine, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Danish Radio Orchestra and many philharmonic orchestras in Poland.

She has performed with conductors including Jacek Kaspszyk, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Vladimir Sirenko, Jurjen Hempel, Roman Kofman, Victoria Zhadko, Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski, Krzysztof Słowiński, Anna Duczmal-Mróz, Paweł Kotla, Jose Maria Florencio and Wojciech Michniewski.

She was the first Polish saxophonist to tour Germany with the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra in 2010, performing Alexander Glazunov’s concerto for alto saxophone and string orchestra.

In 2003 she released the album Siesta with DUX, which was nominated for the Fryderyk 2003 award in the chamber music category. Siesta also received an award from the French music magazine Classica and was at the top of the bestseller list. In January 2005, again with DUX, another album was released, entitled Fiesta, also nominated for the Fryderyk phonographic award in the chamber music category. As before, she is accompanied by the string quartet Prima Vista. Fiesta received the Rewelacja Audio Video (Audio Video Revelation) distinction.

In 2010 she released another album, Alina Mleczko – Saxophone. It features saxophone sonatas by Paul Creston, Paul Hindemith, Phil Woods and Takashi Yoshimatsu.

The album received excellent reviews in, among others, the renowned magazines Gramophone in Britain and Classica in France.

In 2014 another of her own albums was released, Sonatina für Alina. Recorded with the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, it features compositions by the Polish composers Paweł Mykietyn, Jacek Grudzień, Edward Sielicki and Jerzy Derfel. Most of these works are dedicated to the artist.

In April 2016 the artist gave another premiere, of the First Concerto for Saxophone and Symphony Orchestra by the outstanding Polish composer Hanna Kulenty-Majoor, at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, with the National Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2019 she recorded Roman Palester’s Concertino with the Sinfonia Juventus orchestra under Łukasz Borowicz, in the 1947 version, and this is a world premiere recording. The album, released by Anaklasis, was nominated for the Fryderyk 2021 phonographic award.

Her record includes many premieres and first recordings, among others for Polish Radio, TVP and TVP Kultura. She has released 9 solo albums. As a chamber and orchestral musician she has taken part in several dozen other releases.

Recently Alina Mleczko has increasingly engaged in projects connected with improvised music, jazz and ethno.

With great success she teaches the saxophone class at the Fryderyk Chopin School Complex of Music in Warsaw and at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Instrumental and Pedagogical Faculty in Białystok, where, with the title of habilitated doctor of musical arts, she teaches the saxophone class.

She is a lecturer at prestigious music workshops, including the International Course for Young Composers in Radziejowice. Her students are laureates of many competitions and scholarship holders of the National Children’s Fund and of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

    Excerpts from reviews

…The wonderfully quixotic and at the same time exotic “Fuzzy Bird” Sonata by Yoshimatsu is a true gem in the repertoire. One senses the artist’s complete identification with the music she plays. One may therefore assume that we will hear more than once about this talented performer.

    Gramophone Magazine 2010

…Alina Mleczko plays with great freedom of sound, at moments achieving an astonishing power of tone…

    Classica 2010

Alina Mleczko, an exceptional musician who leaves her mark even on the simplest melody. She can tell a story and create the right mood. Every phrase is very natural, more sung than played.

    Kamerton 2003

“The characteristic sound of Alina Mleczko’s saxophone – phrases that will leave no one indifferent; on the other hand, independence, freedom in moving between genres, playing with sound and a distance from herself – all of this guarantees an interesting, exceptional concert.”

Announcement of one of the concerts (Gazeta Wyborcza)

... The soloist’s technical mastery is beyond dispute; she effortlessly draws colours and moods from an instrument that is condemned mainly to existence in jazz.

    Klasyka 2005

…with her artistic path Alina Mleczko proves that the saxophone is an instrument with a fascinating sound and great possibilities, giving room both for virtuoso display and for showing sensitivity to mood and colour. It gives composers an opportunity to cross the boundaries between classical music and jazz….

    Hi Fi Muzyka, February 2010

The saxophonist Alina Mleczko specialises in unusual projects; she often performs contemporary compositions that she commissions from her young colleagues. Her new album “Siesta” contains, this time, more popular, though ambitious, repertoire. These are well-known hits of serious music, chosen for their melodiousness and nostalgia – just right for a rest during a hot siesta. There is Ravel’s “Pavane for a Dead Infanta”, Debussy’s “Clair de lune” and Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise”, but there is no lack of the obligatory Piazzolla, Jobim or Ennio Morricone from “Cinema Paradiso” in such sets. One might think it a cliché, and yet it is not: this is thanks to the special, original combination of instruments – the saxophone with a string quartet. It is the Prima Vista quartet, made up of musicians who for many years played in the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra and have recently set out on their own. Alina Mleczko tunes in superbly to the musicians accompanying her.

The actor brings every audience together, invites them to sing along, and, to the accompaniment of a guitar, carries us into the world of poetry, beautiful words and lyricism, a world that is fading into oblivion too quickly.

"Ach Panie Panowie" is a kind of journey through the rich artistic life of this fine actor.

Prof. Stanisław Górka – theatre, film and television actor, teacher.

A graduate of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz State Theatre School in Warsaw. After finishing his studies in 1977 he performed in the company of the Teatr Współczesny in Warsaw (until 2006), and also worked with the Dramatyczny and Nowy theatres in Warsaw, the Baltic Dramatic Theatre in Koszalin and the Teatr Polski in Bydgoszcz.

For many years an academic teacher at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theatre Academy in Warsaw, where he taught students voice production (voice placement) by his own method. He currently teaches voice production in the English department at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Audiences remember Stanisław Górka above all from the series "Plebania", in which he played Zbyszek, the sexton, but also from films by Kazimierz Kutz, "Zawrócony" and "Pułkownik Kwiatkowski", and by Andrzej Wajda, "Dyrygent" and "Biesy".

He is the leader of the "Teatralne Towarzystwo 'Pod Górkę'" (Theatre Society "Pod Górkę"), founded in 1992, a theatre specialising in chamber vocal-acting forms. With almost thirty premiere productions, the actors of the "Pod Górkę" Theatre have travelled the whole world, performing several thousand shows.

“Święci naszych kluczy i podróży” (“Saints of Our Keys and Journeys”) is a collection of fairy tales, legends and anecdotes about our own Polish saints and those from all over Europe who are important to us.

Saints have accompanied us since the dawn of our history, since the legendary brothers Cyril and Methodius came to our lands and left our priests the first written records of the Gospel. They left them in a language close to the one spoken by our ancestors, the first Slavs.

Holy figures are not only martyrs, kings and princesses endowed with extraordinary gifts. They are also simple people who worked for others, in defence of the land, the tribal community and the Church. People from all over Europe whose names are today symbols of devotion for us and for our culture, which was taking shape in times long past.

Legends about them were created over hundreds of years. Told to children by older generations, by grandmothers and grandfathers, they were enriched with various details and

fairy-tale motifs. Depending on the knowledge and imagination of the tellers, stories of various events, spells and miracles were added to them. That is why the accounts of them are so colourful, full of events more or less true. But they are certainly educational stories, full of ever-relevant truths and wisdom, presenting the saints as models of every virtue worthy of imitation.

This collection of fairy tales and legends is not a collection of lives of the saints. Rather, in each legend I tried to convey an interesting history lesson, and with its help to fix in readers' minds, in a light and pleasant way, a historical imagination and love of their homeland.

“An inspiring and very interesting meeting with Marta Berowska and her stories.”

    Remigiusz Grzela

At Kredens pod Oknami in Praga-Południe

    Description

    Dear Guests!

We warmly invite you to the first meeting this year, the first during the pandemic and the fifth in the series Our Guests! We will have the joy of welcoming a special, distinguished guest! The writer, playwright, journalist and poet Remigiusz Grzela with his latest book, “Z kim tak ci będzie źle jak ze mną” (Who Will Treat You as Badly as I Do), the story of Kalina Jędrusik and Stanisław Dygat. The title of the book is significant; it is also the earlier title of a song with words by Wojciech Młynarski and music by Roman Orłow, with which Kalina Jędrusik won the Grand Prix at the Festival of Polish Song in Opole and cemented her popularity with audiences. Remigiusz Grzela’s book is an author’s look at the history of the relationship of two outstanding creators, well known in the 1960s: the actress and singer and the writer Stanisław Dygat, 17 years her senior and a famous writer at the time. It is a wonderfully readable story about time and love; it is also a meeting with oneself… The OTWARTE publishing house of Kraków has set aside 20 copies for the meeting’s participants at a special lower price. It will be possible to get the Author’s dedication and exchange a few words.

Please observe the epidemiological safety rules.

The meeting will take place on the lawn in front of “Kredens pod Oknami” at 13 Szklanych Domów Street in Warsaw. It will also be recorded online. Afterwards we invite you to an opening, prepared specially in cooperation with the Kalina Jędrusik Artistic Foundation “Kalinowe Serce”, of an exhibition of lesser-known, home photographs of Kalina Jędrusik, organised with the support of the City of Warsaw in the grant competition “Intergenerational educational and cultural initiatives”.

This year marks 30 years since the Artist’s sudden death. We would like to recall her profile, the time in which she lived and the artists who worked with her, outstanding and well-loved, from the time of the Kabaret Starszych Panów, the time of black-and-white films and colourful sensual imaginings, an era that today is… little known to younger generations.

Because of the unusual and difficult time of the epidemic, we accept individual requests and suggestions of days and times. Contact us by message on Facebook. Great women painters, or can an artist be a woman?

While studying the history of art, I wondered about the complete absence of women in that history. There were no great women painters, sculptors or architects, or at any rate nothing was said about them. But were there really none?

The Advancing Women Artists Foundation, founded in 2009, after a cursory look through the storerooms of Florentine museums, found more than 2,000 paintings, sculptures and drawings by women artists kept there.

Who were these women painters, whose works proved valuable enough to be kept in museums, yet not valuable enough for the history of art to mention them in its textbooks?

Tormented by curiosity, I began, one by one, to look for information about artists active in Europe from the 16th to the 19th century and, above all, to look at their works. And before my eyes appeared an enormous number of paintings completely unknown to me, among which were absolutely enchanting works. These were not the timid attempts of amateurs trying to paint something pretty. This was genuine, professional painting, thanks to which these women supported not only themselves but often their whole families. It also turned out that many of these artists had enormous careers in their lifetimes. They were court painters to princes and kings, travelled all over Europe and were eagerly invited to the courts of rulers. Some ran their own painting schools and were admitted to academies of art and to painters’ guilds. Their paintings were highly valued and often fetched higher prices than the paintings of the painters we consider the greatest today. Their biographies, too, often turned out to be extraordinarily interesting. In a world in which women counted for little and their rights were usually limited to being a wife and mother or a nun, these artists, thanks to their talent, determination and intelligence, were often able to achieve far more than men, whose rights were limited by nothing. I wanted to present to you some of these great artists.

    The historical project Konspiracja

A historical project dedicated to recreating the soldiers and civilians, from the January Uprising to the German and Soviet occupation, who were active in the underground, in partisan units or in other armed formations. The period we cover is the years 1863–1963. However, we are not limited to it, and as needs and possibilities allow, we also take up other subjects. Our basic mission is the most faithful historical reconstruction possible, which we carry out by taking part in manoeuvres, historical incubators, re-enactments and other activities that bring us closer to the times we recreate.

We do not limit ourselves to this, however, and also engage in education in the broad sense. We organise lessons, lectures, meetings and exhibitions, including interactive ones.

We invite everyone interested to join us.

Opening of the exhibition “Praski wiraż. The Orzeł cycling track”

    Description

The focus of the exhibition is a cult object – the historic cycling track (velodrome) Orzeł, located close to our estate, on the border of Kamionek and Grochów,

    on ul. Podskarbińska.
It is 333 metres of the history of Warsaw track cycling.

In its heyday the best Polish cyclists raced on it – Czesław Lang, Mirosław Jurek, Szymon Kornacki and many others. The facility was taken out of use in the early 1990s.

It is Mirosław Jurek – a legend of the Orzeł cycling track, as a rider and coach – who will be the guest of the opening. The conversation with him will be hosted by Adam Probosz – sports commentator (commenting on cycling competitions for more than 20 years) and actor.

The meeting will take place in front of the entrance to Kredens pod Oknami, the neighbourhood Local Activity Centre, and in case of bad weather it will be moved inside the club.

The exhibition can be visited in small groups (up to 5 people).
    A reminder about face masks!

After the conversation we invite everyone who would like to:
take a short ride on a track tandem,

make a commemorative cycling screen print (under the eye of Kwiaciarnia Grafiki), a badge, and a photo during the photo session “Być jak Czesław Lang” (To Be Like Czesław Lang).

Bring a light-coloured T-shirt (on the spot you will be able to have a graphic printed on your own T-shirt) and a camera

or a phone with a camera function (for the photo session).
    ***
    About the exhibition:

The exhibition will present photographs collected from Warsaw residents and former riders, as well as ones from the collections of the National Digital Archive,

and also sports memorabilia of the “Orzeł” Sports Club – pennants and club shirts, and at the opening an original track tandem!

The exhibition brings closer the history of a place that was once bustling with sporting life, and the profiles of the people connected with it – riders and coaches. It may also be an opportunity to recall your own memories and create a personal narrative about this place. We look forward to your stories!

The originator of the exhibition is the Nowe Dynasy Initiative, www.nowedynasy.pl
    ***
We remind you that until 5 August 2020 comments can be submitted

Kalina Jędrusik-Dygat (born 5 February 1930 in Gnaszyn[1][2], died 7 August 1991 in Warsaw) – Polish theatre and film actress, singer and cabaret artist. Kalina Jędrusik was born in 1930 (some sources give 1931, which according to her half-brother Maciej Jędrusik is incorrect[1]) in Gnaszyn (since 1977 a district of Częstochowa). In 1949 she graduated from the Juliusz Słowacki 1st General Secondary School in Częstochowa[4], then in 1953 from the State Higher School of Acting in Kraków, and in the same year made her stage debut at the Teatr Wybrzeże in Gdańsk. From January 1955 she performed in Warsaw theatres: the Teatr Narodowy (1955–1957), Teatr Współczesny (1957–1963), Teatr Komedia (1964–1967), Studencki Teatr Satyryków (1969–1972), Teatr Rozmaitości (1972–1985) and Teatr Polski (1985–1991). She played dramatic and character roles. Kalina Jędrusik gained enormous popularity from her appearances in the television programmes of the Kabaret Starszych Panów and from film roles, among others as Joanna in Lekarstwo na miłość, directed by Jan Batory.

In the 1960s and 1970s she was regarded as a sex symbol. In 1976 she performed for the Polish diaspora in the USA in duets with Violetta Villas, mainly in the United States.

In a poll for the best actress in the history of Polish film, organised in 1996 by the magazine “Film” on the 100th anniversary of cinema, she took third place.

It is a neighbourhood Intergenerational Place of Local Activity

It was established in April 2019 as a result of several years of cooperation between the Szaserów Housing Cooperative in Praga-Południe and the Piwnica Poetycka ENS Foundation for Culture and National Heritage.

Today it is an independent, artist-led meeting place at 4 Boremlowska Street in Warsaw. It remains true to all its original principles and ideas. It cherishes the social history of the neighbourhood while developing new forms of artistic and community work.

It means creating and strengthening the community of a “Mała Ojczyzna” (Little Homeland) in the Osiedle Młodych housing estate in Praga-Południe. It is a project born on the initiative of two artists who live on the estate. In 2013, in cooperation with the Board of the “Szaserów” Housing Cooperative, the parish priest of St Paul the Apostle on Kobielska Street and the owners of local cake shops, they began symphonic concerts and activities for children and their grandparents on the square under the oaks in one of the estate's courtyards. This was, and still is, the series of “Pod Oknami” (Under the Windows) concerts for older, sick and less well-off people. It was then, thanks to the support and inspiration of the Board of the “Szaserów” Housing Cooperative, that the process began of trying to open other residents of the estate to those we have “behind the wall”.

The estate, which residents call “Nasz Park” (Our Park) – it is green and quiet, with beautiful old lime trees and oaks, and more than 60 years of history – is and has been home to many artists, painters, architects and people of many professions in education and science. Today more than half of its community of several thousand are elderly people, shut away in their homes and in the past. The initiative grew out of the need to share the joy of life, a love of music and art, love for other people, the need to practise the actor's profession in its purest form, and a passion for community work. Kredens pod Oknami, an INTERGENERATIONAL NEIGHBOURHOOD PLACE OF LOCAL ACTIVITY, makes its spaces available to residents and to local community initiatives. It belongs to the Spółdzielnia Kultury (Culture Cooperative). The activity is co-financed by the Capital City of Warsaw.
